   Hawk様。お世話になっております。野ざらし亭です。

   43Tabsの英訳版の処遇をめぐっての話題ですが、
   もしもHawk様の方で迷惑でなければ、こちらの方に置いていただきたいと私は考えます。
   「blog：野ざらし亭」は雑多な話題のブログですので、知的生産を目的とした訪問者の期待に応えられないであろうと思われますし、何より43TabsはPoICの機能拡張としてのみ意味のあるシステムで、PoICがなければ考えつかなかっただろうと思うからです。（オリジナルの日本語版ですら、こちらに統合した方が良いのではなかろうかと、よく考えます）
   英語版には「blog：野ざらし亭」のほうからリンクを張らせていただくという形になればと思います。
   ご迷惑ばかりお掛けしますが、ご検討お願い致します。

   Hi, Hawk-san.

   The “43Tabs System” appears to be simply a tickler file based on index cards. Ticker files based on index cards are not new.

   Tickler files, according to the Wikipedia article on the topic, date back to “the early twentieth century, if not before.” The article also discusses the rediscovery of the tickler file in a variety of time-management books, including Allen’s GTD.

   For example, a tickler file based on index cards is discussed on pages 199-202 of the Fifth Edition of the book Progressive Indexing and Filing. This out-of-print book was a textbook published by the now-defunct Remington Rand corporation as part of a course for training filing clerks. Many years ago I happened to find my copy of this book, a Fifth Edition published in 1952, when perusing a used book store. The book was originally published in 1925; new editions were updated and published as filing technology evolved. The book was also recently mentioned in the post “The original 43 folders” on the 43 Folders blog, including a photo from the book showing a tickler file employing index cards. As noted in the 43 Folders post, Progressive Indexing and Filing can still be purchased from used booksellers. It provides excellent advice on implementing reference filing systems.

   While I think the use of an tickler file in combination with a system like PoIC is a good idea, it is important to recognize the long history of tickler files based on index cards. While Nozarashi-Tei san cites the “come-up system” as his inspiration, I suspect that system was preceded by the follow-up systems discussed in Progressive Indexing and Filing, which have even earlier origins.

   I expect that there will be many similar “rediscoveries” of analog-based information management systems as we all explore the advantages of such systems as effective alternatives to the shortcomings of their digital counterparts. We may all benefit from an exploration of office-management literature, such as Progressive Indexing and Filing, since analog systems were highly evolved before the advent of the digital age.

   野ざらし亭さんの 43Tabs の原文にもあるように、情報にはフローとストックがありますよね。私は、その二つのうちの「情報をストックする場所」として皆さんに PoIC Wiki を使っていただければと考えています。ちょうど、PoIC の「ドック」のようなイメージで。

   みんなが自分の作ったものを持ちよって、一ヶ所に集めたら楽しいんじゃないかと。野ざらし亭さんがその第一号。そういう訳で、もし可能であれば、日本語版に関しても掲載させていただけるとありがたいです。

   The 43Tabs system includes a whole “history” of tickler file. I see a spiral of creativity/productivity history. We are going to upward. It’s new because the 43Tabs system includes, as you point out, the interpretation of time-axis especially when combined with the PoIC system. In addition, he showed what we need to start 43Tabs, and explain how to operate the system with figures. We are able to move on PoIC+43Tabs system easily thanks to his works. He share his idea with us. It’s great!

   When I find two similar index cards written in different time independently, this is not “rediscovery”, but “reproducibility“. Then, I can confirm the solution is “right” at last. That’s good news! For me, PoIC is just enough for now. So could you confirm the “reproducibility” of the PoIC by using the “Progressive Indexing and Filing”? And check my solution is right or not. It’s also interesting for me because I’ve been looking for a solution why PoIC really works for me, as one of PoIC user. Maybe you will find new (or old?) useful ideas, although PoIC is already based on index cards productivity books written in 1960’s to 1970’s, If PoIC is not enough, let’s think how to improve this system better. I welcome your joining to PoIC Wiki all time! :)
