Laboratory Notebook : Labnote. A new comer for PoIC. 300 pages, 5 mm grid, 1260 yen.

People around me lead to use the Labnote : two of my colleague, one of my supervisor, and Jazzmasterson. All they use this kind of note for research.

A tipping point in my mind is recently released book “How to write Labnote” (in Japanese). There are a lot of rule to use Labnote, in fact. For example, one must use pen and not pencil, etc. I experimentally introduced Labnote for my work, with simpler rules, and found it works good. Now I introduce it for my life as well.

Long time I’ve been looking for a way to compile Medium-sized Task Force of personal interests and hobby. Blog is too public, digital is too strict, index cards is too small. Now I use the Labnote for this.

# Its black body always reminds me of the movie “The Lord of the Rings”. Frodo wrote all about his journey on a notebook at the end of the trilogy.

This box is to protect index cards from humidity. I used to put all index cards stock on my desktop. But soon I found the index cards get warped by the humidity.

I found this box at 100 yen shop. It is originaly for Bunko Books (pocket edition paperback) and/or Manga Comic. It holds 12 packs of index cards.

情報カードは湿気を吸うと反ります。湿気よけのために箱に入れておきます。

This is an experiment to print out a PDF from Mac OS X’s Preview.app to 5×3 size index cards.

What I use here are
- Canon iP90
- Preview.app of Mac OS X Leopard
- 5×3 Index Cards
- SCT Cards (PDF, 5 inch x 3 inch size, 480KB)

Then,
1. Create “Custom Paper Size” of 3 inch x 5 inch size (not 5 inch x 3 inch!)
2. Open the PDF file and choose “Print” from the Preview.app
3. Set up in print window as shown above
4. Set up a 5×3 index card to a printer
5. Print!

I had tried several combination of setting and finally it works.

I mentioned a printer ink is repeled a bit by grid. Else, it seems o.k. :)

一つ前のエントリ “Square, Circle, Triangle” では、PoIC のプロセスをしかく、まる、さんかくで表現してみました。

「しかく」は情報を貯めるところ、「まる」は貯めた情報を組織化するところ、「さんかく」は情報を組織化した結果得られた成果、かつ新しい情報を産むところ。これは何も PoIC だけではなく、他の様々なシステムにも当てはまるようです。

　・身の回りの「しかく・まる・さんかく」、なーんだ？

例えば簡単なところでは、「たまご・ひよこ・にわとり」というのはどうでしょうか。こうして考えた答えは「発見カード」となります。もちろん、答えは一つだけではありません。皆さんの身の回りでも探してみて下さい。制限時間はありません。

PoIC の再生産サイクルは「しかく・まる・さんかく」。それぞれ「ドック」、「タスクフォース編成」、「再生産の成果物」を表し、その間を情報カードが飛び交う。

PoIC では「しかく」に情報を貯めるところから始まる。そのためには「さんかく」からのアウトプットが必要となる。この場合の「さんかく」は、それまでに持っている自分の知恵･知識や、本などからのインプットを表す。このサイクルは「まる」から始まることはない。

サイクルを一周すると「さんかく」は「少し大きいさんかく」になる。それがさらに「しかく」に新しいカードを供給する。こうして「さんかく」は徐々に成長していく。
